Dentascribe’s audio transcription lets you transcribe appointment audio in real time, which you can then use to generate accurate clinical records and personalised patient letters in seconds.
Try our interactive demo to see how audio transcription works in practice. It will guide you through the entire process of transcribing your appointment and generating an audio note.
Try Demo1. Connect a Microphone
While you can use any microphone, for best results, use a lapel microphone that you can attach to your scrubs. Avoid desk microphones and microphone built into the PC, as they are not suited to the dental environment.
Recommended microphone: Wireless Lavalier Microphone
The very first time you click ‘Start Transcribing’, your web browser will ask for permission to access your microphone. You must click Allow for the transcription feature to work.
2. Start a Transcription
After you’ve connected your microphone, you can start transcribing.
- Open a new appointment
- Click on the Start transcribing button at the top right of the screen
- To pause, click the Pause button
Always inform patients that you’re recording the appointment and obtain their explicit consent before starting the recording, even though you’re not storing the audio. This is required for legal and GDPR compliance.
3. View the Transcript
Once you begin recording, a live transcript will begin to appear in the transcription sidebar. Please note there is a brief, intentional processing delay, so you will typically see the text appear 20-30 seconds after it is spoken.
- Automatic Saving: The transcript is saved automatically, so you don’t need to worry about losing your transcript.
- Don’t worry about errors: While the transcript is highly accurate, it may not capture every word perfectly. This is expected. Our AI is specifically designed to understand context and meaning, allowing it to generate accurate notes even from an imperfect transcript.
To clear the transcript, click the Clear button.
Frequent issues
Dentascribe’s transcription service is very robust; if you experience issues, they’re usually caused by a problem with your microphone. We recommend using a simple lapel mic (Wireless Lavalier Microphone) over a more expensive desk or Rode microphone.
These are the most common issues:
- Your microphone is out of battery
- Your wireless microphone is not connecting to the wireless receiver because there is something blocking the signal
Next Steps: Using Your Transcript
The next step is to use your transcript to generate text and AI audio notes. You can use it to automatically generate a full record or to fill in parts of a template.
