First, you’ll need to transcribe your appointment. If you haven’t done this yet, follow our guide on Transcribing Appointments.
2. Generate Your Note
Once you have a transcript, you can generate your note from the recording sidebar.
- Click Generate note from scratch
- Select the type of consultation from the dropdown menu (e.g. Examination, Emergency, TMJ Consultation, Other)
The AI will analyse your transcript and create a note using your selected template type.
3. Review and Edit Your Note
Once generation is complete, carefully review the note:
- Check accuracy - Ensure all details correctly reflect your appointment
- Look for red dots - These indicate areas where AI couldn’t extract information from your transcript
- Add missing details - Fill in any gaps or add additional information as needed
4. Copy to Your Records
When you’re satisfied with your note, click the Copy button and paste it directly into your practice management system.

How It Works
Dentascribe generates notes using several key principles:
- Uses your existing templates: Your generated note follows the same structure and format as your standard templates, ensuring consistency
- No assumptions: If the AI couldn’t determine something from your transcript, it leaves the line blank for you to complete
- Context-aware: The AI understands dental terminology and clinical context to create accurate, professional documentation
Choosing Which Sections to Generate
You won’t always want AI to generate every section of your note. Some parts are better written by humans, and you have complete control over what gets generated.
Click Choose sections to customise which parts of the note AI will complete:
- Generated by default: Patient history, presenting complaint, clinical findings, and discussions
- Not generated by default: Diagnoses, patient risks, and treatment plans - these require your clinical judgement
While Dentascribe’s audio notes can assist with documentation, final clinical decisions like diagnoses and treatment plans remain your professional responsibility. AI is not a replacement for your clinical decision-making.
